Introducing the Motorsport Ireland National Autotesting Series!
National level autotesting is back for 2024, but with a few changes! The goal is to revamp the Motorsport Ireland National Autotest Championship into a truly affordable, accessible and enjoyable series for everyone, whether they own a competition car or not!
First up was to get rid of the 14+ round championships of old. Too many rounds made it too hard for people to commit. The 2024 championship will be 6 rounds, with 5 to count. We aim to keep the championship between 6-8 events going forward! A major past issue was "tests to suit everyone" which, at a national level, just didn't work in reality. A test designed to challenge a specially-built lightweight autotest car would be very tough for a road car to navigate, let alone enjoy. On the flip side, a test designed to be nice and flowing for a road car isn't going to be challenging for top competitors and cars, or prepare MI drivers for international competitions. This is why the most significant change is the introduction of the new "Challenge" competition, and the national title for the overall winner that goes with it! The National Autotest Challenge will see competitors taking on tests specifically designed with road cars in mind. If you own a lightweight and prefer a fast test... don't worry, we have classes to accommodate you too. Nobody is forced to do the "Championship" layouts! The "Championship" section will see the return of tests specifically designed with lightweight cars in mind, and will mirror the NI and MSUK championships. Tests will be designed to challenge experts and prepare people for team competitions like the Ken Wharton and Ronnie Trouton International Autotest events! Of course we haven't forgotten about novices - the "Europa Cup" is returning and will be a sub-section of the Challenge and open to novices only! |
